Nathan Zhou
Nathan Zhou born in 1980 in Guangzhou, China. He studied English Language and Literature and graduated in 2004, currently lives and works in Shanghai. The artistic practice of Nathan Zhou is based on depicting individual world through intuitive painting language. Using graffiti and collage as primary techniques he infuses his works with the strong look of a personal diary. Image, calendar and language are united as a method, creating improvising tension that are analogous to repeated syncopation in Jazz music.

Nathan’s graffiti on canvas and on outdoor walls deal with everything he loves in his life: art, music, video game, color, food, belief…he adopts himself to the very essence of the street art which roots are in the Western pop culture and subculture. They are honest, direct and radical and executed in a hasteful way. Nathan transforms graffiti into his comments on the life of the urban youth in the contemporary Chinese society, both as the record of the present and the past memory.
