Zadie Xa

Zadie Xa (b. 1983 Vancouver, Canada; lives and works London, UK) was born in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded, ancestral and continually asserted territories of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her work is informed by her experiences within the Korean diaspora, traditional folk tales and mythology as well as the environmental and cultural context of the Pacific Northwest.

Her work often features garments, including cloaks and masks, used for live performance and within installation or moving image. Xa’s work has been shown at The National Gallery, London, UK; Haus Der Kunst, Munich, Germany; the 13th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai, China; The 58th Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy; Serpentine Galleries, London, UK, and MoMa PS1, New York NY.
