Presented online and at our 22nd and 69th Street galleries, the project brings together works committed by artists from both within and outside of the gallery’s program, sold to benefit institutions that have played a significant role in shaping our city’s vibrant cultural history. Net proceeds from the initiative will be allocated among the fourteen visual arts organizations and two non-profit charitable partners serving the city’s wider communities.
Giving back to a community
New York is one of the most dynamic cities in its share of nonprofit institutions founded to broaden the boundaries of art. These institutions have almost always operated on narrow financial margins and now, the artists are joining together to support the spaces that have nurtured them and formed the backbone of the City’s contemporary art scene. This major initiative involves the sale of over 100 works by some the world’s most prominent artists to raise money in support of the recovery needs of these key institutions.
Plan your visit
Many of the artworks in this presentation will also be on view to the public at our two New York gallery spaces at West 22nd Street and 69th Street from 6 October through 22 October 2020. ‘Artists for New York’ is the first project presented at the gallery’s new 36,000 square foot space at 542 West 22nd Street in the West Chelsea Arts District. Designed by Selldorf Architects, it is Hauser & Wirth’s first purpose-built, ground-up building.
